Thank you for your interest in joining 360 Arts Management.
I would like you to send in a self-tape following the guidance below, please do follow it to the letter, it is really, really important that If you are successful that I can confidently submit you for a casting knowing that you can produce an industry standard, acceptable self-tape.
Please can you forward a self-tape of a monologue, no longer from 1 minute to 1 minute 30 seconds, anything of your choosing. (no longer)
Film in landscape against a plain wall, (preferably white),
Good lighting,
Wear black clothing, no jewellery or make up, hair off your face. You can wear it down but it must not cover your eyes, no loud hair accessories
If you wear glasses, all the time, please wear them.
Film from elbows to just above your head, equal framing to left, right and just above your head (so not too much space above you head)
Speak in your natural accent
The camera should be in your eye-line and you should talk slightly off camera, not directly to it.
Deliver your lines slightly off-camera: to achieve this please sit facing straight at the camera, then moving your eyes, just your eyes, not your body or head, just your eyes, to the top left or top right of the camera lens of the device you are using, try not to look away, up or down or close your eyes but if you do need to look away, your eyes will be able to find their way back to the focal point
Or : tape a pencil/pen to the camera, just above the lens and look at the end sticking out as your eye line .
The most important aspect of a self-tape is the eyes, the thought attached to an emotion of the lines being delivered has to come from within and feed down the lens of the camera to the people at home so less is more, self-tapes are very still. No dead silences or too much heavy breathing.
Before you send in your self-tape, pick a TV programme and watch the actors eyes, they are always on camera, if they look away its only for a moment. Not many silences or prolonged heavy breathing. Production have a very short time frame to film and time is money so no luxury to convey emotion with dead silences or too long of a heavy sigh, you need to find a different way to express this type of emotion, whether it be with your voice, an expression or through body language.
Play the tape back, is it in sync? have you followed all of the guidance? Play it back to see if the viewer can read the type of scene and mood of the character portrayed in it, just by reading expressions and body language.
Please can you send the footage asap to Carol: info@360arts.uk, I will get back to you with feedback.
I am so looking forward to receiving your tapes and I am really interested in representing you so please do follow all the guidance above and hopefully we can work together.
Good luck, looking forward to hearing from you
